What do you mean by “no junk?”
If you were torn between donating an item, leaving it on the curb, or listing it for a few bucks– go ahead and donate it or leave it on the curb! Someone will get some use out of it and it will be appreciated. Important note: just because something is “cheap” does not mean it is junk. A bike that your kid loves but has outgrown, that you’d like to see another neighborhood kid enjoy, does not need to be listed for a high price.
What neighborhoods can list items on the Boerum Bulletin?
Right now only items can only be posted by users in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Downtown Brooklyn, and Gowanus. Basically, only neighborhoods within a short walk or one train stop from Boerum Hill. I’m doing this to make it easier to ensure this is a project of neighbors, and it will make it easier for me (this is a one man operation) to moderate the listings as needed.
Why isn’t ___ a category option?
I probably just didn’t think of it. I also want to be able to ensure that the things being posted are of worthwhile quality, and I do not want this to turn into a full time job. So certain categories of items that lend themselves to high volume (i.e. clothes) would be best left to other platforms.
Rules
To keep this a safe and useful community resource, all users must follow these guidelines.
1. Local listings only No listings outside the relevant neighborhoods will be approved.
2. Real people only No bots, fake accounts, or duplicate accounts. One account per person.
3. No spam Do not post the same listing multiple times. Duplicate listings will be removed.
4. Be honest Accurately describe what you are selling. No misleading titles, fake prices, or bait and switch listings.
5. Keep it civil Treat your neighbors with respect. Harassment, threats, or abusive language will result in an immediate ban.
Prohibited Items
I’m assuming you’re not stupid, but some things must be put in writing. The following are not allowed on Boerum Bulletin under any circumstances:
- Weapons of any kind
- Illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia
- Stolen goods
- Adult content of any kind
- Animals
- Pyramid schemes or multi level marketing
- Job listings that require upfront payment
Reporting Problems
If you see a listing or encounter behavior that violates these rules, please use the Report button on the listing page. Inappropriate content will be removed ASAP.
For urgent issues contact Admin directly.
Consequences
Violations of these rules may result in:
- Listing removal
- Temporary suspension
- Permanent ban
Any listing or account can be removed at Admin discretion.
